What's up with this? "Professional Bass Fishermen"

02:09 Feb 27 2007
Times Read: 687

I heard a piece on NPR this evening on my way home from work.

It seems there was a big Bass fishing tournament in Alabama over the weekend. One of the "Biggest names" in Bass fishing was disqualified for driving his boat too close to other boats on the lake.

They reported that his "thousands of fans" that had come from all over the U.S. were dissapointed. He missed out on the potential to win the $500,000.00 top prize and put his Multi-million dollar sponsorships in jeapordy.

WTF? Who would travel from "all over the US" to watch some dude go fishing? How is it possible that there is a $500,000.00 prize to see who can deplete a lake of the most or biggest fish? How can there be "Multi-million dollar" sponsors for some dude to go fishing?

This is just SO WRONG in so many ways it's amazing!

New Family Member

Yesterday Nina joined our family.

Gina picked her up in the afternoon from a cat rescue organization called "Stray Cat Blues". She is a 10 week old little black kitten.

Our dog Ewok ( a Shih Tsu) was at first a little put off, but they are making friends with each other already. Our other cat Sassafrass (A Himalayan) just put her nose in the air and walked away indignantly.

I must say that while Gina is a big time "Cat Person"...Me? Not so much! As anyone who has had a cat knows, you can't chose a cat to be 'yours', they choose a person to be 'theirs'. Unfortunatly at this point nina seems to have chosen me. I have a theory why........Nina's mom was a grey cat and my hair is very gray. She likes to climb up on my shoulders and rub up agains my hair, or climb on my chest and try to climb into my beard! Last night she was able to get up onto our bed (how I don't know as it is a VERY high 4 poster). She spent the majority of the night sleeping on my head.

This is going to be so much fun! (I hope you can detect the sarcastic tone).

Cruxshaddows

We went to the most amazing concert last night.

Angel Spit, Ayria and the Cruxshaddows played at Nocturne in Philadelphia last night.

We were able to get a neighbor to watch our son and have a "sleep over" with their son. The weather really sucked yesterday, snow, wind, sleet, freezing rain...yuck. We almost decided to not try the trip into Philly, but finnaly decided to give it a try. The roads were fine, there was no traffic and we made it to the club in record time!

Angel Spit was up first and they did a great set. This was their first date in the US and hopefully they will be back soon.

Next up was Ayria. They were wondeful. They have been touring with the Cruxshaddows. They were very energetic. Jennifer was very in touch with the crowd. Her mannerisms were very "cute" but the music and lyrics were undoubtedly on the dark side. Gina said with her mannerisms and her blond hair and stunning beauty, couple with the dark music she thought of Jennifer as "Barbie go Bad!".

The Cruxshaddows finnaly came on stage and started playing, minus the lead singer! I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned to fine Rouge making his way through the crowd to the stage. He was in and out of the crowd may times during the show, and sang Sophia while standing on a bar stool a foot away from me in the middle of the crowd. Jennifer from Ayria joined the Cruxshaddows for their encore song Marilyn My Bitterness. The set was over an hour and a half long but still seamed too short!

We got home around 2:00AM and I quite a bit of trouble crawling out of bed for work this morning!

Unexpected opportunity

18:53 Feb 10 2007

I have noticed that sometimes opportunity is made by setting a goal, making a plan, and diligently working toward that goal. Other times, opportunities seemingly come out of nowhere and drop in your lap.

Yesterday in the late afternoon I was attempting to wrap things up and head for home. I was answering some final emails and setting up a few meetings for next week when my phone rang.

When my office phone rings at 4:45 on a Friday it is uasually NOT a good thing. Our CEO loves to call people into hi office for some dumb-assed meeting at 5:00 that lasts until 7:00. So everyone is reluctant to answer their phone after 4:00, usually you just let it go to vaice mail! For some reason, however, I was compelled to answer.

When I did answer, it turned out to be a good thing. On the other end of the line was a "Managment Recuiter" aka "Head Hunter". He was looking for someone for a position as a Technical Manager for a company very close to my home. I have to talk with him more, but this would certainly be a good step up in my carreer, a big increase in salary and I won't have to move! Every other time I have changed positions a move of many states was required. That is not in the cards for me right now, as both of my daughters are in PA state schools, and the out of state tuition is outrageously high!

I am very excited about this opportunity, yet I always wonder, why? I wish I could understand how opportunity comes unexpectedly.

Another whine fest!

20:36 Feb 05 2007

As I mentioned previously my son was sick on Thursday night / Friday. I attributed it to all of the garbage he ate at the Wachovia Center. Apparently it was "Norwalk Virus", as that is what I am now enjoying!

We went to a combo Superbowl / Birthday party yesterday. I ate quite a bit including a big piece of Carvel chocolate ice cream cake just before we left at half time.

We came home and I watched the rest of the game. Gina and Dave went to bed early. I wasn't feeling the greatest after the game was over so I too went to bed.

Around 1:00 AM Mt. Vesuvius awoke and ever since I've been worshipping the porcelin god! This realyy sucks!

I just now decided to try to eat something. I had a cup of tea and some toast. I shure hope it stays where I put it.

On a bright note, I now have a shiney clean alimentary canal!

Last night we finally booked a cabin for the VR / Gothic Beauty Goth Cruise.

An internet search for this cruise late last year is what brought me to VR in the first place. In order to post on the cruise forum one had to be level 3, so I started working on that and became addicted to VR.

We are SO looking forward to this cruise. To be able to combine our love of cruising with our dark nature and with the music of VNV Nation will be awesome!

Happy Birthday David!

20:51 Feb 02 2007
Times Read: 696

Today is my son David's 13th birthday.

It hasen't turned out to be the happiest of days for him.

Last night I took him into Philadelphia to a Flyers game. I guess I don't even have to mention that they lost! I don't know what it is this year but they are just awefull! A friend of our had given us the tickets and we took the subway in as the forcasters were calling for a major winter storm.

Well we got home around 11:00pm and he headed up to bed. Around 2:00AM he woke us up, yelling MOM...DAD I don't feel good. I got up and he was in the bathroom and said even though he went, his stomach hurt. I told him to go lay down in bed and I would get hime a drink. By the time I got back upstairs he was doing his best Linda Blair Excorcist interpretation! I guess I should have exercized some restraint over the Hot Dogs, fries, drinks, ice creams......at the game!

He was up most of the night feeling sickly and he's still not doing so great today. It's sad because now we won't be going out to dinner tonight for his birthday, there was no big storm to cancel school (even though he didn't go).

Hopefully he feels better tomorrow, as his big sister is coming home from college to surprise him and we will have his cake and special dinner at home Saturday night.
